'It was there when I left last night...' , sobbed Sam C. as he tearfully recounted the mysterious events leading up to the disappearance of his eight-pound soldering iron.
'Sure, the transformer assemblies had all been soldered by the time I came in, and the joints looked really clean...it's just...I can't...where's my soldering iron? Where's my torch?' How you can make your soldering irons and torches disappear... As he led Sam to the Nurse's office, Production Manager Rob W. explained to this reporter that this upstate NY facility has been using flame and hot irons for decades to complete solder joints on transformer cooling assemblies within their induction heating apparatus. 'This comes as a shock, really,' he confessed. 'To think this technology has been under our noses all along. It's just unfortunate that it's taken a tragedy of this magnitude to get us to see it! |

As workers arrived this morning, it became immediately apparent that something was very different about the solder joints in the tubing for the RF transformers:
